A Guide To Online Sale Shopping

1. Do your research

When the sales arrive, all logic goes out the window in the mad scramble to grab a bargain. Especially with online shopping, you’ve got to be quick to get that last size. Therefore it’s best to have a rough idea of what’s on your wishlist! Look for classics that are missing from your wardrobe. Make a little list beforehand – know what sites you want to shop, which brands you want to buy etc. It will simplify it for you!

2. Cull your existing wardrobe

Do this to make room for your new purchases! Nothing like having a good clean out of one’s wardrobe. There’s various groups on Facebook for selling goods easily and quickly, a couple of my favourites are ‘Buy Sell Swap Trade Eastern Suburbs’ or ‘High End’ an invite only group based in Melbourne. There’s plenty of fashion markets around Sydney which are great for selling second hand clothes – I am a big fan of Bondi markets at the public school on a Sunday, and Kirribilli fashion market once a month. Both worthwhile! Failing that there’s always eBay.

3. Add items to your wishlist

Probably the best tip for shopping the sales and it’s a really simple one. Add things to your ‘wishlist’ often, and then wait for them to go on sale. So many times I’ve already had something in my cart for ages, had time to think it through and then boom, it’s suddenly in the sale and I make a purchase. I like having time to think things through so having things in your cart on the regular definitely aids in this process. Some things become a ‘no’ and others become a definite yes.

4. Sign up to newsletters

This one is a no-brainer which I’m sure all of you do already. Sign up to all your favourite brands’ newsletters and stay in the know. As well as signing up to individual brands you like, Missy Confidential is a great Sydney based website which has a weekly newsletter round up of all the sales happening that week (online & warehouse). Look for the equivalent in your city. It’s a gold mine for bargain hunters! On the flip side, unsubscribe from the brands you’re no longer interested in and de-clutter your inbox.

5. Make time to relax in the process

Sale shopping should not be rushed, it should be enjoyed! Curl up on the couch with a nice glass (or bottle!) of wine and get comfortable. This is about having some ‘you‘ time and enjoying the whole sale shopping experience. Lately I’ve been enjoying brown brothers moscato – sweet but tasty.

6. Look out for websites with a good return policy

I love websites like ASOS, The Iconic or The Outnet for their decent return policies. There’s nothing worse than ordering something that isn’t quite right, and not having the option to get your money back!

7. Set a budget

Last but not least, the sensible approach is to give yourself a sale shopping budget, whether that’s $200 or $1000 it’s good to set a limit and stick to it. It’s not worth skipping dinner for the next week in order to afford your new shoes. Have fun shopping within your budget and remember: ‘buying something on sale is actually saving money’.
