Ruffle Skirts 101
The trend that’s blowing up Instagram! Ruffle skirts are literally everywhere right now and there’s no escaping them. Here’s some tips below for rocking yours like a fashion blogger…
1. Make it the feature
A ruffle skirt is a statement piece, so let it do all the talking. Pairing it with plain black or white, simple accompaniments is your best bet. In cool weather this would translate to a black turtle neck with or without a bell sleeve (as above), or in warmer months the high neck sleeveless equivalent.
2. Choose your colour
Colour scheme wise there’s plenty of options (think blues, reds, pinks – colour in general is back in a big way). Whichever you choose, keep in mind this rule: at least two colours in your outfit should match. You can extend this to three matching pieces of the same colour, but two is the minimum to tie the look together visually.
As discussed above, to let the skirt take centre stage, I’ve styled mine with plain black turtleneck and accessories. It looks great with boots, but would also be killer with black block-heel pumps. You could easily swap these for a white top and bag, and espadrilles for summer.
3. Simple Accessories
Let the ruffles take centre stage and go minimal with the jewellery and sunglasses. Think pretty gold or silver layer necklaces or a few dainty rings. You don’t want to overdo it. If I had to choose one word that sums up the ruffle skirt? Fun. That’s your brief with this one. Have fun with it!
