Culottes are a stylish addition to the modern girls wardrobe. The key is mastering how to wear them during the cooler months. Due to their length (being cut off above the ankle) there can be a question around whether they’re suitable for winter. I’m serious when I say they’re a winter pant too! Winter gives you the opportunity to wear culottes in luxe materials and thicker fabrics, experiment with new colours (to beat the winter blues of course), and look chic whilst ultimately keeping warm.
Here’s my top tips for wearing culottes in winter:
1. Try a bright colour
This season Karen Millen has some stylish culottes and cropped trousers in beautiful colours. I fell in love with this bright orange pair. Not only do they add a pop of colour but they’re the perfect contrast to a black knit. I love brightening a stark winter with a pop of colour. It can totally lift your mood!
2. Tuck in your favourite knit
While a cropped sweater might look great with culottes during autumn, when the temps drop in winter you’re going to want to cover your midriff. The solution is to tuck your favourite sweaters and knits into your culottes. Because of the A-line nature of culottes, you can also experiment with a statement sleeve (like this one or a cheaper alternative). Finish off with your best coat for ultimate winter chic.
3. Wear with ankle boots
Wearing culottes during winter can be daunting because there’s a chance your legs could be exposed. This can be eliminated by pairing with your favourite pair of ankle boots. Ankle boots perfectly fit the bill, leaving minimal leg exposure and maximum shoe show-off possibility. Get your favourite ankle boots noticed (or in my case a shoe boot). If you’re still cold you can always wear with a pair of socks or stockings underneath which is massively on trend right now.
