Brought to you by Nuffnang and Singin’ In The Rain.
On Saturday night, April from Travels and a Stylist and I were lucky to attend the opening night of Singin’ in the Rain at the Lyric Theatre – the all singing all dancing musical spectacular. Having not been to theatre in some time, it was an absolute treat to sit front row (with the likes of Jules & Guy Sebastian) for this amazing show! Donned in clear ponchos (the first three rows are in the splash zone!) we waited imminent Saturation whilst anticipating a great show.
A great show it was, simulating all the senses and being thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Adam Garcia (the lead character playing Don Lockwood) was surprisingly nowhere to be seen, despite being his big return to Australian theatre. I’m kind of glad, because Grant Almirall (who played Don in Garcia’s absence) put on an incredible performance which I wouldn’t have otherwise seen! I fell a little bit in love with him as the lead of Don – don’t tell my boyfriend. Haha! Erika Heynatz also stole the show with her role as the hilarious character ‘Lina Lamont’. Her performance was outstanding and she really surprised me with her diversity.
A hefty 12,000L of live rain is used on stage during the performance which I found fascinating / amazing. The effects of dancing and water on stage is not to be overlooked – it really sucks you in from the fun angle. We were literally glued to our seats!
I didn’t know all of the songs as I’ve never actually seen Singin’ In The Rain the movie, but some of the classics were Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh, Moses Supposes and the classic Singin’ in the Rain. The choreography was beautiful, with the tap dancing being a real high-light. I absolutely loved the story line too (a romance at the heart of it) and the costumes from the 50s were stunning.
Being thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable the whole way through, Singin’ In The Rain in one for all ages. I highly recommend booking a ticket for something special to do during Sydney winter, it’s up to you whether you take your bestie, mum, dad, boyfriend – definitely one that everyone can enjoy for it’s sheer sense of playfulness and fun.
I hope you guys get to experience Singin’ In The Rain for yourselves!
