I don’t know about you guys but I always leave my Melbourne Cup plans (and outfit) to the last minute. It’s similar to New Years Eve, I don’t know why I can’t commit sooner – but I just can’t. Keeping the options open makes for a fun spontaneous day – as well as outfit! For those of you in the same boat I thought I would offer some quick tips for choosing an awesome last minute outfit and nailing it.
TIPS:
1. Know the right place to shop last minute. One of my old faves, The ICONIC has 3 hour delivery in metropolitan areas which is an absolute godsend for when you leave these types of things to the last minute – some of my favourite race wear brands are Camilla & Marc, Windsor Smith, Cooper St and TY-LR.
2. Buy something you can wear again. I opted for culottes this year because they’re easy, tailored and fresh – and I’ll be able to wear them over and over again this summer. Skirts are the same – easily taken from the office to after work drinks with the switch of a top! These days it’s all about cost per wear and getting appropriate use from an item. This skirt would be beautiful for race day.
3. Crowns have been trending at the races this year. This one in particular ticks all the right boxes!
4. Invest in one key piece which is the focus of the outfit. Like I mentioned above, investing in the right pieces is key for race wear. This doesn’t mean your whole outfit has to be designer, but choose one splurge piece and go for it (just make sure you would definitely wear it again!)
5. Smile, enjoy yourself and don’t drink TOO much. That’s not to say you can’t have fun, but this is the one day you should try to remain classy & elegant!
Hope you guys have a great race day and pick a winner – giddy up!! xox
