With spring racing season in full swing, and Melbourne Cup less than a week away (yikes!) there’s no better time than to make last minute outfit preparation and make any last minute shopping orders. These types of events always sneak up on me so this year I started thinking about Melbourne Cup early and begun experimenting with different outfit combinations. Planning is good but you can also make a beautiful outfit on the fly, by mixing and matching pieces you already own. A weekend is definitely enough time to get prepared! Melbourne Cup is the one day we all get dressed up and celebrate even if we don’t make it to the races that season. I personally am not going to the Melbourne Cup event in Melbourne, but looking forward to celebrating with friends in Sydney!
Maxis aren’t worn to the races that often, but I thought this diamond print dress was the perfect classic for a day out at the races. Same with the fedora – an unusual choice I think the two work together nicely to create an original look. Just remember as long as you look classy you don’t have to be wearing the norm! Hope this post gives you some inspiration for your Melbourne Cup or race day look.
Spring Racing Part II will be up soon. Giddy up girls!
Here’s some tips for creating your perfect Melbourne Cup look:
1. The key is planning and doing your research. Find some inspiration online and start building your dream outfit.
2. Decide on a dress and start basing everything around this. The perfect dress that looks gorgeous on you is key. Shop for your figure and look day time glamour.
3. Experiment with a hat, a fascinator can be lovely but a hat takes things one step further and makes the look more elegant in my opinion.
4. Do something different to stand out from the crowd. Mixed prints in separates, gold metallic weave dress for day… do something original that works for you.
5. Do a stock take and look at what you already own. I was already in possession of this amazing fedora I’m wearing in these pics, you don’t need to have brand new items to look a million bucks!
6. Accessorise well and plan every last detail. Nothing worse than not having the right clutch bag on the day :)
