If you happened to read my New Year’s resolutions for 2017, you would have noticed that fitness and eating were one of the items on that list. Actually, if I had to rate all my resolutions I would say this one is a big contender for number one! As they say, “New Year, new me”, and this is going to be my approach when it comes to my fitness and eating plans this year. Here are ways I’m getting back into fitness and healthy eating in 2017:
Meal Planning
I’ve read a few articles on this recently, and nearly everyone says that in order to succeed with healthy eating, meal planning is essential. I’ve just started doing this myself and already noticing a difference being organised! I’ve started buying ingredients for sandwiches and salads on Sundays for the week ahead. If I run out of something during the week I’ll drop into the supermarket before work to pick up things like extra avocado, wraps, or afternoon snacks like yoghurt or nuts.

Movement & Exercise
In the days of everything at our finger tips (food delivery apps, Uber, online shopping etc) it can be easy to become lazy. I know I’ve definitely become a victim of this becoming too ‘busy’ to work out – either spending too much time on Instagram or not prioritising a gym class. I’m vowing to make a conscious decision to move and exercise more this year. There’s no excuse really, whether it’s sticking to my new routine, or just basic things like getting up from your desk and going for walk around the block, stretching or simply walking up the stairs – it’s time to get moving!

Remembering Stuff I like
Before running my blog when I was working full-time in advertising a few years back I used to love walking, swimming and yoga. Nowadays I don’t do these activities half as much. That’s something I plan to change in 2017. By doing stuff I used to love, I’m hoping to fall back in love with these activities and do more of them in 2017!

Routine
Setting a routine will be a big part of sticking to my fitness and healthy eating goals. I’ve found that making something a routine is the best way to stick to it. When an activity becomes habit, you don’t need to constantly be planning what you’re going to do each and every day (a recipe for falling off the horse). Instead you know exactly what you’re doing each day of the week without having to think about it. You throw your yoga tights or goggles into a bag the night before and get on with it!

New Gear
I don’t know about you guys, but new exercise gear makes me want to work out! If you look the part you’re already half way there. You won’t feel motivated if your trainers are falling apart or yoga pants turning to rags. I say it’s OK to treat yourself to some new get-up if you’re going to put effort into working out.
