Monocle Pop Up Store Launch

For those of you unfamiliar with the magazine, Monocle is a lifestyle/ popular culture magazine predominantly aimed at men and describes itself as ‘a magazine briefing on global affairs, business, culture, design and much more’. The magazine is produced one a month and you might subconsciously know Monocle through hearing about their annual popular ‘Quality of life’ surveys and reporting on the world’s most livable cities.

Being a Sunday night, expectations were set fairly low and that quickly changed on arrival. We were greeted by a packed out store, with electric BMW’s cruising the block outside, a well-do-do crowd and giant gin cocktails on tap. The editor in chief Tyler Brûlé made an appearance along with some of the staff from international Monocle offices and it felt like an exciting time to be in Sydney.

I was totally won over by the Monocle crowd and their uber coolness, mingling with creative types and what I perceived to be the next start up millionaires. A highlight was reading the Monocle Sydney 1-page guide, which had solid tips for people on business.

Right now I’m all about the 70s and it was the perfect chance to bring out a black statement jumpsuit with flared trousers that had been hanging in my closet gathering dust. Paired with white sneakers it was the perfect ensemble to comfortably sip cocktails amongst a hip Sydney crowd.  I’m definitely sold on the Monocle dream, their tagline being ‘Monocle – keeping an eye and an ear on the world’.
